Here is some more work from the Italian design studio Symbiosis/Draga Obradovic, mentioned in my last post. From their studio in Florence they salvage the frameworks of discarded furniture and produce one-of-a-kind pieces that pay homage to the original with wit, irony and beautiful craftsmanship.
The studio has several collections of chairs, tables and sofas but my favorite is the Deshabille/Undressed collection of upholstered chairs.
This is not restoration, it is deconstruction, reconstruction, the peeling back of layers of what was intended to be covered and creating something new that both subverts and elevates the original.
What I wouldn’t give for one of these.
