elegant decay in the Marais

Renovation doesn’t seem like the right word for this project, so much of the original condition having been preserved.  Built in the early 20th c. for a charcuterie, for the past twenty years it has been the iconic Argentinian restaurant, Anahi in the Marais district in Paris.   Barcelona designer Maud Bury is responsible for this amazing reinvention, retaining the chipped and broken white butcher shop tile and the art deco ceiling mural and turning it into a space with a soul.

When I first saw this I immediately checked my tired old white tiled bathroom for chinks and chips to gold leaf.  Too bad the tile is in pretty good condition.IMG_0684
